Tidy Butt Peaky Climbers Challenge 2025
Join the Tidy Butt Peaky Climbers Challenge and take on an epic day of adventure, connection, and impact. Whether you’re conquering both Skirrid and Sugarloaf twice, chasing your first summit selfie, or completing 23km your way in our virtual challenge, every step helps tackle the mental health crisis here in Gwent.

🏔️ Choose your mission
- Double Trouble Challenge: Skirrid + Sugarloaf… TWICE. 23km of epic climbs, breathtaking views, and digging deep with your fellow Peaky Climbers. Start time: 7:00 AM
- Skirrid Summit Stomp: A stunning 4.4km up-and-back route - perfect for first-timers, families, or anyone chasing that summit selfie. Start time: Early afternoon - approx 2pm (so we can all finish and celebrate together!)
- Virtual Challenge: Can’t join us in person? No problem.
Complete 23km your way - walk, jog, dance, or crawl and join the Strava squad from wherever you are. We want this to be accessible for as many people as possible so you can complete the overall 23km challenge across the month of October- break it down if you need to!

🎉 From peak to party!
Post-Challenge Celebration: Back at Grounded Coffee & Wellness, we’ll unwind and celebrate the day together. You’ll have access to contrast therapy, including sauna and cold dips, to help your body recover. There will be a live DJ to keep the energy going, and The Infamous Beefy Boys will be serving up their legendary burgers to refuel.
Entry & Fundraising: Your £20 entry fee includes an exclusive Tidy Butt Peaky Climbers T-shirt, your bib number and wristband, and one contrast therapy session at Grounded Coffee & Wellness to use after the hike.
We encourage participants to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship. Fundraising is optional – but every penny raised goes directly towards providing free 1:1 counselling sessions for people who need help right now.

🧠 Why We Climb
We’re not just climbing hills – we’re confronting the mental health crisis in our community. Tidy Butt is a small but mighty mental health charity based in Sebastopol, Pontypool. We offer four free therapy sessions to anyone who’s struggling, with no long waiting lists – most people are seen within two weeks.
Since launching in September 2023, we’ve delivered over 60 counselling sessions and are now receiving more than 30 referrals every month. But demand continues to grow, and the need for support is urgent.
Here in Gwent, suicide rates have risen by 20% in the past year. Waiting lists for mental health services often stretch beyond six months, and many people face financial or systemic barriers that prevent them from getting the help they need. Your steps can help change that.

🫶 Why join the peaky climbers challenge?
- Because mental health support shouldn't come with a waiting list
- Because connection, conversation, and community can save lives
- Because we all climb for something - or someone
Last year, 16 climbers raised over £10,000. This year, we want to double that!
100+ people. One cause. One community.

How do I know if I am a ‘steady eddy’ or ‘turbo tommy’?
If you hike regularly and enjoy pushing yourself then select ‘turbo tommy’- our steady eddy is for our slower paced hikers. Don’t panic if you aren’t sure, you can always change on the day! We want to get an idea of numbers as we will have a few groups during the challenge- start as a group and finish as a group.
What do I do if I am taking part in the challenge virtually (option 3)?
Option 3 is our virtual challenge which means you can complete 23km wherever and however you wish! Cycle, jog, swim, walk… all you need to do is sign up to our strava group once you receive the link. You can complete this on the 5th October OR you can spread it across the month of October- you set your own challenge.
Why should I fundraise?
Your fundraising will directly help us to provide vital mental health support for more people via our tidy butt counselling service. We provide 4 free counselling sessions to those that need help now.
Is there a minimum age?
There isn’t a minimum age but we recommend everyone who takes part enjoys walking Welsh mountains! anyone under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Is the challenge accessible for people with disabilities?
The peaks we are climbing are the Skirrid and Sugarloaf mountain which are steep and uneven terrain- our virtual challenge may be a great option as you can do that anywhere and by any means so you can choose somewhere that will suit your abilities for example, a large park that is paved and flat.
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are allowed on-site at the event and at Grounded Coffee & Wellness post challenge but not to take part in the challenge.
What will I receive before the event?
We will be hosting a challenge pack collection day a week before the challenge- this is for all 3 challenge options. Collection will be at Grounded Coffee & Wellness (NP4 5BQ). Details will be sent via email to you in the coming weeks. If you are not located in South Wales and are taking part virtually, kindly email us to organise for your challenge pack to be posted to you hello@tidybutt.co.uk. If my child is doing the challenge with me, do they need their own entry?
Yes, if you are taking part with your child please buy them their own ticket for the event – please fill out one entry with your own details and a second one with their respective details. We have children’s tidy butt tees so please specify that they will require a children’s top along with their size. Please note, we don’t expect a child to raise £100.

To register for the challenge it costs £20 per person. Your wristband will also give you access to the infamous Beefy Boys at Grounded!
Do I have to wear a tidy butt challenge top?
Yes you will need to wear your tidy butt challenge top and pin your bib number on your person or back pack so it’s visible when passing through check points. If you are taking part virtually you won’t have a bib number but it would be great to receive photo tags and reposts of you in your challenge tees!
